Which familiarization activity do you need?
You may already know how to inspect, back and drive safely but have never sat in the truck you’ll use at the test. Choose the part of that truck that feels unfamiliar. The three activities are available separately.
You know the inspection but need to find parts on this truck
A driver who knows what to look for may still need to locate the steering components, coolant reservoir or brake equipment on a different model. Review the current resources and ask for time with that vehicle. See pre-trip familiarization.
You back safely, but this trailer responds differently
A change in wheelbase or trailer length can alter when the trailer starts to turn and what you see in the mirrors. Describe the maneuver you can already perform and the combination you usually use. See backing familiarization.
You need to feel the controls on the road
Tell us which transmission, brake setup, turns or mirror positions differ from your usual vehicle. Road familiarization requires lawful operation with the appropriate accompanying CDL holder. See road familiarization.
When to ask about a different service
If you are still learning to control a commercial vehicle safely, call before reserving. These individually selected activities are limited and self-directed. Required instructor-led ELDT range and public-road training has its own curriculum, proficiency decision and record.
Before reserving a session
Review the fee, duration and refund terms for the activity you want. For covered paid activities, our published terms describe advance delivery of the written description and refund policy. That timeline is separate from the CLP wait for a skills test.
