Planning a CDL test trip from Midland

If you work a rotation in the Midland area, the hardest part of testing may be getting the truck, the examiner and your days off to line up. Start with the date you have to be back on shift. We can work backward with you before you commit to a trip to North Texas.

Freightliner tractor with a 28-foot pup semitrailer
Class A vehicle reference. Confirm the equipment for your test date.

Get the equipment description from the person hiring you

Ask whether the job involves a straight service truck, a tractor pulling a semitrailer, or both. Bring the weight ratings, transmission and brake type. A Class A tractor and pup and a Class B single vehicle answer different needs. We’ll use those details to discuss the vehicle you intend to test in.

Price the whole trip before requesting time off

Write down the itemized rental and fuel, separate DPS costs, nights away and missed shifts. If you already have an appointment, read us the address and start time from the confirmation. If you still need ELDT, allow for that separate activity and for completion to be recorded before the test. Leave room in your plan for a changed appointment.

Decide whether you need vehicle time

Someone who already backs and inspects a combination safely may simply want to get used to the rental truck. If coupling, backing or driving in traffic is new to you, tell us first so we can discuss the preparation your experience calls for.

What drivers ask us

Can my dispatcher reserve a truck for my whole crew?

Call with the number of drivers and their separate class, permit stage and release dates. We check each person and each vehicle time individually before confirming availability.

Choose your next step

Have your next days off and the kind of equipment you expect to operate handy.
